President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni donated Shs 20 million to the Ntare Lions League, lauding the old boys’ sports initiative as a powerful force for unity and national development.
The donation was delivered on Saturday, August 29, 2026 by the Minister of State for Sports Peter Ogwang, who represented the President at the annual event in Kampala.
Organized by the Ntare School Old Boys Association, The Ntare Lions League is an annual sporting event that brings together alumni of the historic school under the banner of sportsmanship, wellness and community.
Museveni congratulated the league for establishing a home in Kampala, describing it as a milestone for nurturing talent and community for generations to come.
In a message delivered by Ogwang, Museveni hailed sports as a vital unifying tool that transcends tribe, religion and politics.
Reflecting on his own time at the school, where he joined in 1961, the President said Ntare was built on a trinity of values that still resonate today.
“During those foundational days, Ntare was defined by non-sectarianism, non-authoritarianism and an unyielding commitment to academic and extra-curricular excellence.”
The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting sports development, noting that the NRM government has created a conducive environment for the private sector to thrive, including in sports.
Museveni also challenged Ntare to remain a standard-bearer for holistic education.
TY Omujuna FC retained the title after defeating Machado FC 6-5 in penalties.
