The Pool Association of Uganda has pledged to support the formation of regional pool leagues as it seeks to take the sport beyond Kampala.
The announcement was made in Mbale during the Elgon Pool Open Championship, which attracted some of Uganda’s top players.
The Elgon Pool Open Championship has provided a platform for some of Uganda’s best pool players to compete in Mbale.
But beyond the competition, the tournament renewed calls for stronger regional structures to develop the sport.
The call comes at a time when players in Mbale say limited competition is affecting the development of local talent.
The Elgon Open attracted 64 men and 24 women in a single-elimination competition, with players drawn from about nine Ugandan districts.
The women’s winner, Naiga Lukia, walked away with one million shillings. Rashid Wagaba, popularly known as Dog City, took the men’s category prize of Shs2m.
