Former Uganda Cranes defender Henry Kalungi has asked sportsmen who live a better life to give back to communities that made them in order to create lasting fan-bases.

The USA-based retired footballer made the call while giving back to the vulnerable children from Kampala ghetto areas at the Buganda Road primary school playgrounds.
A number of youngsters from the slums around Kampala have continued to benefit from Kalungi even after making the USA his second home.
Through his Henry Kalungi foundation and partners, youngsters from the slums have over the years received football drills, playing boots, jerseys, meals, and other assistance to support their football development.
“Our focus is mainly in this area because we have so much talent from this area. Guys that have gone on to play for big clubs in our country, play for our country and play abroad. So, I wanna focus on this big area because there is a lot of talent coming from this area-Katanga, Makerere, Kivulu. I wanna help these kids because most of them have opportunity and yet they can come back and empower these communities if they become successful,” said Kalungi.

“I have done this for the last seven years. If God lifts you and gets you somewhere, it is very rewarding if you give back. God gave me an opportunity and I wanna give back that opportunity to someone vulnerable, change lives and help our communities,” noted.
Kalungi, who has an academy in Luwero, sitting on ten acres of land also donated to Luwero communities. He was in the company of former Uganda Cranes stars and UPPC Entebbe coaches, Godfrey Walusimbi and Abdallah Mubiru.
